Where It All Started..
Peaceful Paws was founded by Dr. Marcus Horley in the hope of providing Auckland based pet owners with the option of having a peaceful, in-home pet euthanasia when the time was right. When Dr. Horley moved overseas in 2023, Dr Molly. Leggett continued providing exceptional care to hundreds of special pets. She too has now moved over the ditch to Australia, so vet-duo Dr. Dearbhla Owens and Dr. Shannon Cassidy are now the proud co-directors of Peaceful Paws.
We believe that when the time comes for your pet’s paws to be laid to rest, their final moments should be free from fear, anxiety, and discomfort. For many pets, the final trip into the clinic can be associated with all of these feelings.
The home environment provides a much more peaceful and private environment for euthanasia to take place.
Unfortunately, we currently don’t have enough vets to keep up with New Zealand’s growing pet population. This means that general practices have limited time and resources that they are able to dedicate to providing call out services. It is difficult to see that we were failing to meet some of our patients’ most sensitive needs.
Our aim for Peaceful Paws was to bridge this gap. We wanted to create an in-home euthanasia service that focused on the needs of both pets and their owners.
Our long term goal at Peaceful Paws will be to work towards ensuring that every owner has the option of a peaceful pet euthanasia being performed at home when the time is right.
