The Big Decision
Generally, pets have a much shorter life span than their owners - while this is heart wrenching, it gives us the opportunity to see their lives through from start to end. It’s beautiful to see our pets transition through their different life stages, but it can become difficult as they approach the end of their lives and develop more health conditions that impact their quality of life.
For older pets and those battling with ongoing or terminal conditions, assessment of their quality of life becomes extremely important. There are many things to consider when it comes to making an accurate assessment of your pet’s quality of life. When first beginning to assess your pet, we recommend close discussion with your pet’s regular veterinarian.
Making the decision to put your pet to rest is never one that you should have to make alone - we are happy to help you work through the process of deciding whether or not the time is right. If after discussion we feel as though your pet is not quite at this point yet, we can offer advice on what the current focus should be (ie. focusing on palliative / hospice care) and guide you in the right direction.
